چکیده

A conceptual model was developed for the estimation of chlorophyll a (Chl) in turbid productive waters, based on the optical information in the red and in the near-infra-red (NIR) spectral regions. The calibration of the model with spectral bands of satellite-carried sensors MERIS and MODIS, proved applicable over two orders of magnitude of Chl concentration. The goal of the current work was to test the model in an environment with a limited range of Chl variation, where Chl concentration ranged from 4.6 to 20.8 mg m. The model calibrated in US Nebraska lakes was able to predict Chl concentration with RMSE of less than 1.5 mg m. Our work thus indicates the potential of the model to be usefully applied to Chl estimation in inland and coastal waters without further need of parameterization and calibration.

Assessing the potential of SeaWiFS and MODIS for estimating chlorophyll concentration in turbid productive waters using red and near-infrared bands

Bio-optical algorithms for remote estimation of chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl) in case-1 waters exploit the upwelling radiation in the blue and green spectral regions. In turbid productive waters other constituents, that vary independently of Chl, absorb and scatter light in these spectral regions. As a consequence, the accurate estimation of Chl in turbid productive waters has so far not be...

Estimation of chlorophyll-a concentration in turbid productive waters using airborne hyperspectral data.

Algorithms based on red and near infra-red (NIR) reflectances measured using field spectrometers have been previously shown to yield accurate estimates of chlorophyll-a concentration in turbid productive waters, irrespective of variations in the bio-optical characteristics of water. The objective of this study was to investigate the performance of NIR-red models when applied to multi-temporal a...

Assessment of Chlorophyll-a Remote Sensing Algorithms in a Productive Tropical Estuarine-Lagoon System

Remote estimation of chlorophyll-a in turbid and productive estuaries is difficult due to the optical complexity of Case 2 waters. Although recent advances have been obtained with the use of empirical approaches for estimating chlorophyll-a in these environments, the understanding of the relationship between spectral reflectance and chlorophyll-a is based mainly on temperate and subtropical est...

Estimation of chlorophyll-a concentration in productive turbid waters using a Hyperspectral Imager for the Coastal Ocean---the Azov Sea case study

We present here the results of chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration estimation using the red and near infrared (NIR) spectral bands of a Hyperspectral Imager for the Coastal Ocean (HICO) in productive turbid waters of the Azov Sea, Russia. During the data collection campaign in the summer of 2010 in Taganrog Bay and the Azov Sea, water samples were collected and concentrations of chl-a were meas...

Satellite Estimation of Chlorophyll-a Concentration Using the Red and NIR Bands of MERIS—The Azov Sea Case Study

We present here the results of calibrating and validating a three-band model and, its special case, a two-band model, which use MEdium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) reflectances in the red and near-infrared spectral regions for estimating chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration in inland, estuarine, and coastal turbid productive waters. During four data collection campaigns in 2008 and on...
